Everyone gets to their destination in different ways.

There is something that drives you to want more out of life, and to seek it out in New York City.

Often, day-to-day life influences and impacts our process of becoming. The bustling rhythm of the city can amplify obstacles, making it essential to pause, reflect, and seek support when needed.

The pursuit of becoming who you are isn't always a straight path; it's marked by twists, turns, and unexpected detours that are important to acknowledge and are actually a part of what shapes you to become who you’re meant to be in New York City. Although NYC can elicit stress and self-doubt, it can also ignite ambition and growth.

Many of the interesting and motivated people that are attracted to a dynamic city like NYC are also the same people who value knowing themselves and who recognize the importance of setting aside time in their busy lives to commit to ongoing personal work and healing.

I help students, creative entrepreneurs, artists, expats, and young professionals foster such insight and self-exploration through compassion and curiosity. I prioritize offering a private and confidential in-person space for you to feel grounded and supported as you look inward and explore aspects of your unique personal experience.

The process of becoming who you are can feel confusing, lonely, and overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate it alone. In our conversations, we'll be curious together, and I'll balance providing guidance or feedback when prompted with allowing the necessary time and space for you to define how you want your treatment to unfold.

Julia L. Pressman LCSW
Therapist in New York City

I offer in-depth, in-person psychotherapy for adults and adolescents in New York City to manage anxiety, depression, relationships, and self-esteem and identity issues. Many of the clients in my practice come to therapy because they want to manage self-defeating habits, feel more confident expressing themselves, and experience more connectedness in their lives and their relationships. If you’re like one of my clients, you’re smart, creative, and thoughtful but prone to overthinking, self-doubt, and self-judgment. Sometimes you care too much, but that's also one of your strengths— the fact that you are so caring! You’re also keenly aware of how you might get in your own way.

I help people like you move through whatever’s holding you back, offering support and guidance along the way, so that you can feel more secure embodying and becoming the person you know you’re meant to be. In our conversations, no topic or emotion is off-limits, and I’ll help you get more comfortable expressing what’s actually going on instead of just saying what you think others want to hear. As your therapist, my role is to be attuned to you as we work collaboratively in pursuit of your learning about yourself more deeply. I believe we all have innate potential for further personal growth, and therapy provides a structure for that process.

Therapy works when it’s built on an authentic and attuned working relationship with you and your needs.

In our conversations, I accompany you through a process of change. Although we often start in the here and now, things from the past often inform our present functioning and make us feel stuck, making it difficult for us to see and get out of our own way. In our sessions, I encourage you to express your thoughts and feelings freely and without judgment. Together, we will explore the material and emotions that arise out of our dialogue, and collaboratively gather insights into the factors that influence your behavior, experiences, and how you present yourself in the world. Often, we uncover aspects that were previously outside of your awareness, providing new perspectives and opportunities for growth.

It takes courage to want to explore the underlying patterns and narratives that have contributed to your life story so far. You're not alone in your quest for self-discovery and self-improvement; many individuals walking these streets are also on their own unique paths of becoming. In our conversations, we'll be curious together, and I'll balance providing guidance or feedback when prompted with allowing the necessary time and space for you to define how you want your treatment to unfold.
